A2 Photography students

Aim: Prepare shoot proposal for the set exam

·      Identify materials equipment processes required for the set exam

·      Demonstrate an ability to plan for the exam paper

Set exam dates: 19^th, 21^st, 26^th, 28^th April

My exam proposal is: -

I will be using barcodes and placing these on female models – either through Photoshop or by using temporary tattoos – in front of a black backdrop. This will connote the objectification of women.

I will be working in the following locations (maximum no = 2)

B block studio.

Planning.

I need the following resources(include studio and materials/backdrops, tripods, lights, etc).

Tripod, two lights, black backdrop, stool, temporary tattoos of barcodes.

I am planning my shoots on the following dates/times

                       

19^th April, 21^st April.

If working on location be aware that the first shoot must be for a three hour location excluding travel time.

You will need to plan your shoots and include the writing material within the set time schedule…    The total exam time is 10 hours

All students working on location must allow sufficient time to complete their write-up within the set exam times

Students are advised to ensure that their exam piece addresses the set assessment objectives.

Shoot 10 - Work Diary

I will be conducting this shoot in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA as I will be in this city for a week and feel that there is such a unique culture that would make an excellent photo series. For my shoot in particular, I will be focussing on the different careers that people have in New Orleans as it is so different. By doing this I will be able to take pictures of people in a natural element and so I can ensure that my pictures do not look stiff or posed. I will have to take my images during the day and on a sunny day so that the lighting is correct.

I really liked how these images turned out and feel that I achieved exactly what I 

hoped to with my final pictures. I enjoyed working in such a unique environment and was able to take some pictures that I would have only been able to take in this city and so I feel I created something completely different to anything I have done before. The vibrant colours that I was able to photograph alongside the people working in the streets truly portray what the place is like. Although, I should have taken extra time and care in taking the pictures as many turned out blurred and I could not reshoot them.

Camera settings: 1/125, f/6, ISO 100

This was one of my favourite images from the set as it is so unique. Not only do the vibrant greens and pinks pop and stand out against the greyish, dull background but you can clearly see that the woman is a fortune teller due to the crystal ball on the table. This is not something that you would ordinarily see in an everyday situation and so I am glad that I photographed this as it enabled me to capture something completely unique.

This was one image that I did not like as much. I feel that the women at the table are not framed well and just seem almost out of place in the picture. The overall images appears quite dull and toned down as there are not many colours that stand out. I feel that the image as a whole does not have any part that is a focal point and that stands out and so I do not like it.

Progression

If I were to shoot in an outside setting such as this again, I would take my time and make sure that every image I take is perfect as there is no chance to go back and redo it. I will also ensure that I go further out to shoot more people as I took all of my images in one place and so was slightly restricted in what I could shoot. I would do a shoot like this again, but I feel that in order to portray messages and create certain atmospheres in my images, I prefer working in the studio.
