Connecting Essay 2

This image has recreated an 'Emoji' - emoticons that are available to use on iPhones in place or alongside text. By creating the Emoji in a realistic form, it almost brings it to life. It represents how Emoji's have been integrated into every day life and being widely used around the world by a large percentage of the population. The image helps us see how Emoji's would look if people were to use them in face to face conversations.

In this image, I asked the model to act how she would when pulling the face shown in the Emoji. Then, on Photoshop, I created a thought bubble and inside it placed the chosen Emoji to represent that this was the face she was intended to pull. I believe this works well as there are many Emojis available that would be impossible to recreate, but I feel that this one is very clearly represented.

There are quite a few similarities between the two images. Firstly, the both use Emoji's as the core subject of the image. I feel that both were successful in this as Emoji's are universally recognised and so the images are quickly recognisable. Also, both images have used the concept of recreating an Emoji using a real person in order to show how they would look in real life. A third similarity is that both have been manipulated in Photoshop to complete the image, as in the first one the blue triangles would have been created on a computer and on mine the Emoji was placed in on Photoshop.

Despite the similarities, there are a couple of differences. For example, the first image features the models hands and so is recreating an Emoji that is not as realistic. My image, on the other hand. uses the model's face in order to show how the Emoji would look realistically. This leads me on to the second difference. Whilst the first image is simply remaking an Emoji, my image is not completely remaking it but instead representing it in a real life form.
