Shoot 3 - Work Record

During this shoot I will be focussing on the topic of identity and how this majorly links to appearance. To show this in my images I will be taking portraits of different models and blurring out their eyes and mouths so that the main features of their faces are missing. I will also experiment with colour filters as I feel that using different colours will make each image unique. This will require a lot of work on Photoshop and less work in the studio, which is different to the last two shoots I have done. Not only will this shoot allow me to explore a new topic, but it will also allow me to work more on my Photoshop skills and practise different tools on there.

I was not very happy with how this shoot turned out as it did not meet my expectations. During the shoot, I was not able to use the colour filters as they did not create the effect that I had expected them to and so used the pink background for every image. During editing, some of my images were much easier to edit than others due to aspects such as make-up and hair being in the face. The editing was also effect by skin tone and many of the models had different shades around their face due to lighting and objects creating shadows and so it was difficult creating a smooth surface. This resulted in many of my images looking extremely false and messy.

Camera settings: 1/125, f/4.0, ISO 200

This was my favourite image from the shoot. Due to the model wearing minimal make up and having an even skin tone throughout her whole face, it was easy to create the effect that I wanted with my images and felt that this one turned out the best. I feel that this image is the one that looks the most 'real' whilst also keeping the surrealism effect. I feel this image best connotes how our appearances are an important part of our identity as her face is almost completely bare.

I did not like this image. The model in this image was wearing make up and so it was very difficult to find parts of her face that matched the colour tone around her eyes and mouth. It took a long time to create this image and I am still unhappy about it as it does not look how I wanted it to and looks very rushed and messy.

Progression

Next time I shoot, I will make sure that if I need my models to have bare skin I will ask them to do so as I had not considered this before the shoot and ended up with images that I am unhappy with. I will also make sure that my models are positioned properly before shooting as I did not do this with this shoot and therefore had hair in front of the models faces in some images and had to redo the picture. I will spend more time practicing Photoshop techniques as this was the most difficult task I have completed on Photoshop so far. My next shoot will be focusing on feminism.
